No. 7 Syracuse lost a penalty shootout, 4-2, at Clemson in the quarterfinals of the ACC men's soccer tournament on Sunday
The match officially ended a 1-1 tie after 110 minutes of play.
It marked the third straight meeting between the two teams that went to overtime and the second time in the last two years that a shootout decided the advancing team in tournament play.
The Orange (11-3-4) went first in the shootout and sophomore Kamal Miller converted his penalty kick to give Syracuse a 1-0 lead. Clemson goalkeeper Brady Allardice, who did not see any action during the match, stopped the Orange's next two attempts as the Tigers took a 3-1 lead in the round of five.
