Queensbury, N.Y. -- For about an hour in a sweltering junior college gym where a fan futilely tried to create a breeze, Joseph Girard III worked out with Jimmer Fredette.
The mentor and the protege went through a variety of shots and moves designed to create an opening. First, Fredette would take a 3-pointer. Then Girard would shoot. Fredette would dribble toward the basket and launch a runner off one foot and Girard would mimic the maneuver.
More than a workout, it was a one-hour tutoring session from Fredette, at one time inarguably the greatest player in Glens Falls High School history, to Girard, who according to some has surpassed Fredette in the school's basketball annals.
