The Syracuse Orange sent five athletes to the NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships, but most of the attention was focused on Justyn Knight and his attempt to win the Men’s 5,000m title.
The rain and cool weather contributed to a very slow pace from the start. All 24 athletes remained in a large pack as no one was willing to exert the energy to break away. With 5 laps to go Amon Terrer from Campbell began to push the pace a bit in an attempt to break up the large pack.
