Syracuse, N.Y. -- Andrew Armstrong grabbed the needle and didn't even flinch when he stabbed himself in the lower stomach for the first time.
Armstrong needed to get comfortable giving himself an injection -- he'd have to do this at least four times a day for the rest of his life or risk serious health problems after being diagnosed with Type I diabetes a year and a half before heading to college, where he is a sophomore middle linebacker for Syracuse football.
That moment, though, revealed how Armstrong confronted his new life. When others might have wallowed and winced, he abided and attacked.
