Syracuse, N.Y. -- The Syracuse lacrosse team has been invited to the NCAA Tournament for the 11th-straight season.
That was assured Sunday night when the tournament committee slotted the Orange No. 8 in the playoff field. Syracuse (8-6) will host No. 9 seed Cornell (12-4) at 7:15 p.m. next Sunday (ESPNU).
There might have been a little drama about the Orange's postseason chances, but Syracuse shooed away any last doubts with a 17-5 win over Colgate on Saturday. Coming into that contest, SU was ranked No. 12 in the NCAA's RPI rankings.
The Orange also made a strong case for inclusion with a regular-season ACC title, two wins against top-5 RPI teams (Notre Dame and Duke) and competition against the third-strongest schedule in the country.
