Syracuse, N.Y. — Dino Babers' coaching career hasn't always been scoring records and conference championships.
Back in 2002, he was three weeks into his second season as offensive coordinator/quarterbacks coach for Texas A&M when R.C. Slocum demoted Babers and removed his play-calling responsibilities. The Aggies had just managed only a field goal in a nationally televised loss to No. 7 Virginia Tech at home. The week before, TAMU scored only 14 points in a narrow win over unranked Pittsburgh.
Speaking about the now 14-year-old change with ESPN's Ivan Maisel on the Championship Drive Podcast, Babers said the demotion helped make him the coach he is today.
