Syracuse football WR Erv Philips breaks program single-game receptions record

Syracuse, N.Y. -- Syracuse football inside receiver Erv Philips broke the program's single-game receptions mark against North Carolina State on Saturday.

Philips, a senior, logged his 15th catch near the nine-minute mark of the fourth quarter. He tied Hall of Famer Art Monk's record of 14 catches during SU's season-opening win against Colgate last year.

With eight minutes left in the contest, the Orange is trailing 33-17. Philips has a career-high 170 receiving yards, capitalizing on a Wolfpack defense that has kept its base unit on the field and routinely covered him with a linebacker.
