Syracuse Football: Secondary Concerns Linger as Cooper Rush & Central Michigan Approach

On Wednesday's Atlantic Coast Conference teleconference, Syracuse head coach Scott Shafer spent nearly two full minutes praising Central Michigan quarterback Cooper Rush. Shafer raved about everything from Rush's ability to quickly read defenses to his 3.9 grade point average in Actuarial Science, which Shafer likened to Rush's intelligence on the field.

"He's just a good football player," Shafer said of the third-year quarterback. "Not only is he bright but he's got a lot of experience under his belt."

For Syracuse, limiting Rush's production will likely be the key to avoiding an upset when the Chippewas (1-1, 0-0 Mid-American Conference) visit the Carrier Dome on Saturday.
