Syracuse, N.Y. -- Syracuse football's continued interest led to a change of heart for Philadelphia-area receiver James Cherry.
The one-time Robert Morris commit says he will join the Orange this summer as a preferred walk-on.
"I built a really good relationship with Coach (Mike) Lynch," Cherry said moments after announcing his intentions on Twitter. "He's not only a great coach, but he's a great guy and I respect him."
Cherry, a 5-foot-6.5, 154-pound receiver from St. Joseph's Prep, was a first-team All-Catholic League pick last season and helped the Hawks return to the PIAA Class 6A title game last December.
