Kalamazoo, Mich. -- Tommy DeVito's college football debut didn't go quite as planned.
The Syracuse redshirt freshman quarterback was called on for the final drive of the second quarter at Western Michigan on Friday night with the Orange leading 34-7.
Five scoreless possessions later, the Broncos had cut their deficit to 34-28, and senior starter Eric Dungey replaced him. Ultimately, behind a record-setting rushing performance from Dungey, SU left Waldo Stadium with a 55-42 victory.
But that empty handful of possessions, and the accompanying shift in momentum, shouldn't fall on DeVito alone, SU head coach Dino Babers said.
