There were nine minutes left in the fourth quarter. LSU had the ball and were driving down the field after a 51-yard completion from Brandon Harris to Travin Dural took the ball to the Syracuse 11 yard line. The very next play, Harris hit Malachi Dupre for the 11-yard score that put LSU up 31-17. And then the mass exodus began.
The crowd of 41,000 seemed to take this as their cue to leave the dome in droves, in a game that still had a full 9 minutes to go and was only a two-score difference. Apparently that was enough for a good chunk of the crowd, who all wanted to “beat the traffic” or whatever other lame excuse they would use to leave an electrified Carrier Dome prior to the game’s end.
