Syracuse football kicker Andre Szmyt finalist for Groza Award

Syracuse, N.Y. -- One of the best stories within the Syracuse football season came a step closer to a fitting ending.

Redshirt freshman Andre Szmyt is one of three finalists for the Lou Groza Award, given annually to the nation's best kicker.

Szmyt is chasing an FBS record by the end of the season. He leads the country in field goals made (28) and is three shy of tying the record set by Georgia's Billy Bennett in 2003 for most in a season.

Szmyt, who went from walk-on to scholarship kicker this season, is trying to become the second player in NCAA history to lead the country in scoring.
