Syracuse football DT Steven Clark medically disqualified due to genetic disorder

Syracuse, N.Y. -- Syracuse football defensive tackle Steven Clark was medically disqualified due to a genetic disorder on Tuesday, his father, Steve Clark, told The Post-Standard/Syracuse.com.

Head trainer Dr. James Tucker made the final decision, based in part on the opinion of Syracuse-based hematologist Dr. Santo DiFino, the older Clark said. DiFino believes Steven Clark needs to stay on blood thinners for the rest of his life.

"There's a higher risk of clotting and (DiFino) is uncomfortable with him playing a collision sport," Steve Clark said.

Clark, a junior, finishes his Orange career with 37 tackles, including three for loss, and two fumble recoveries.
