Syracuse University finished the 2017-18 academic year with a No. 46 finish in the Director's Cup rankings, a slip of two spots from the previous year.
The Director's Cup is a competition invented in 1993 that uses a points system in an effort to crown the country's top athletic department. Despite its artificial nature and relatively limited notoriety, many schools have decided to place so much value on the competition that they dole out six-figure bonuses to administrators depending on the results.
