Syracuse Basketball: Tyus Battle a finalist for West, snubbed by Wooden

Tyus Battle, the extremely talented junior wing for the SU hoops outfit, has received inclusion on the list of 10 finalists for the 2019 Jerry West Award, annually doled out to the nation’s premier shooting guard.

Honestly, no surprise there. Battle, averaging 17.7 points per game, is currently slotted at No. 6 in the rugged Atlantic Coast Conference, which is arguably the first or second-best league throughout the country, along with the Big Ten.

While Battle is unquestionably deserving of this honor, he’s got a bunch of stiff competition from dudes like Duke freshman RJ Barrett, Virginia junior Kyle Guy, Texas Tech sophomore Jarrett Culver, Villanova redshirt senior Phil Booth, Virginia Tech sophomore Nickeil Alexander-Walker, and Jaylen Nowell, who is a sophomore with Mike Hopkins-led Washington.
