Three days the Louisville men's basketball program was thrust into turmoil by a federal criminal case that included allegations of payments to recruits, the school announced that David Padgett, a staff member of Rick Pitino, would become acting head coach.
Padgett had been serving as the school's director of basketball operations, and his promotion provides as much stability as could be had following the placement of Pitino and athletic director Tom Jurich on administrative leave.
Padgett is Louisville's third head coach in 46 years, following Hall of Famers Pitino and Denny Crum.
Padgett's resume is markedly different.
