Syracuse, N.Y. -- Joe Girard III, who broke the New York State scoring record as a junior at Glens Falls High School, was honored in the New York State Senate on Tuesday.
Girard, a 6-foot-1 guard, shattered the record, which was previously held by current Indiana Pacers guard Lance Stephenson. Girard finished his junior season with 3,306 career points.
Girard is a prime recruiting target in the 2019 class. He holds scholarship offers from several schools, including Syracuse, Duke and Michigan.
On Tuesday, Girard was formally recognized during the Senate's session. He stood in the gallery as a proclamation was read from the senate floor.
