The Syracuse basketball squad has lost one of its all-time bests. Billy Gabor, who suited up for the ‘Cuse in the 1940s and competed in the NBA for a half-dozen years, died on Tuesday at the age of 97, according to a report by Mike Waters of Syracuse.com.
Per the Waters article, Gabor passed away “after a brief battle with pneumonia.” Gabor, who celebrated his 97th birthday on May 13, had lived in Jupiter, Fla., for the last several years, Waters wrote in his story. Gabor’s son, Bill, confirmed the news of his father’s death, the piece said.
