Syracuse, N.Y. - It was, said Howard Washington, "a freak accident."
The Syracuse basketball point guard was elevating to make a pass during a routine group practice drill at the Melo Center, when he felt it. Something had gone terribly wrong with his right knee.
"I went to take off and it just kind of buckled under me. That's how it happened. There wasn't contact or anything like that," Washington said. "Playing live 3-on-3 and I was just jumping to throw a skip pass or a jump pass and it just kind of gave out on me on the way up.
