Tallahassee, Fla. -- How does a player maintain self-confidence when he barely plays in a game?
Howard Washington takes shot upon shot after practices and listens to SU assistant Gerry McNamara.
"GMac has coached multiple guards like Michael Carter-Williams who were in the same situation that I'm in this season with veterans ahead of them,'' Washington said. "He's been preaching that to me all season. Just keep working hard and getting better and make sure when your opportunity comes be ready and take advantage of it.''
On Saturday, Washington's opportunity came. Twice.
Washington wound up playing 24 minutes, twice as much as he had played in any of Syracuse's first 17 games, and scoring a career-high 7 points in the Orange's 101-90 double-overtime loss to the 23rd-ranked Seminoles.
