Syracuse, N.Y. — Derrick Griffin is a 6-foot-7 post man for one of the smallest Division I teams in the nation. But Griffin's height camouflages an athleticism honed on the football field, where he was once one of the nation's top high school wide receivers.
He now plays basketball at Texas Southern. And on Sunday in the Carrier Dome, he was essentially a one-man wrecking ball, toppling the 2-3 Orange zone in an 80-67 losing effort.
Griffin scored 20 points. He took nine shots — all of them at or near the rim — and made all of them.
