Syracuse, N.Y. -- Symir Torrence went into Syracuse's Elite Camp on Saturday morning with a chip on his shoulder. He would leave the Carmelo K. Anthony Center at the end of the day with a scholarship offer in hand.
Torrence, a 6-foot-3 guard from Syracuse, had been invited to the Elite Camp along with about two dozen other top-level basketball recruiting targets. A few of those prospects already had offers from Syracuse.
Torrence had grown up cheering on the hometown Orange. Jonny Flynn, the dynamic point guard, had been his favorite player. But he was still waiting and hoping for his own scholarship offer.
