Southern Methodist announced on Friday that it would accept a postseason ban and a nine-game suspension for head coach Larry Brown, two of the heaviest penalties applied to the school following an NCAA investigation.
The issues at SMU, and the penalties applied, hold many similarities to the findings at Syracuse announced earlier this year.
At SMU, an administrator helped a recruit with coursework in an effort to help him become eligible, circumstances resembling those surrounding Syracuse and Fab Melo. Both head coaches were punished similarly, receiving nine-game suspensions despite having no knowledge of the violations as they were occurring.
