Several CNY lacrosse players earn medals at World Championships

Syracuse, N.Y. -- A handful of lacrosse players with Central New York ties came back from the World Championships in Israel with shiny souvenirs.

The United States topped Canada in Saturday's gold medal game. The U.S. squad featured defenders Joe Fletcher (West Genesee) and Joel White (Syracuse University) as well as goalie Joel Galloway (West Genesee, SU).

In the bronze medal game, Randy Staats produced a hat trick, Brendan Bomberry (1-1) posted a highlight-reel goal, goalie Warren Hill made 16 saves, Tyson Bomberry collected a pair of ground balls and Jeremy Thompson was strong at the faceoff X (11-27) to lead a complete Orange effort in the Iroquois Nationals' 14-12 win over Australia.
