Syracuse, N.Y. -- The "phenomenal" season of Syracuse senior defender Scott Firman has caused even 10-year SU defensive coordinator Lelan Rogers to question his past decisions.
"'Gee, maybe we should have had Scottie down on close defense the last couple years,"' Rogers said people have told him. "I don't know. Maybe we should have. We'll never know."
There's no secret about it. Firman is No. 1 Syracuse's No. 1 defender this season, covering the opponent's top attack, and is arguably one of the best in the country.
It's come as (at least partially) a surprise to SU's players, coaches and even Firman himself.
