The Syracuse Orange lost a legend today with the passing of Coach Mac at the age of 86. Richard MacPherson was more than just a football coach to many in the Syracuse area. He was a guy who wore his heart on his sleeve and defended the Syracuse area with such fire that you would have sworn he was a native of the area (he was born in Maine).
Coach Mac guided the Orange football program back to national prominence. The 1984 Orange upset #1 Nebraska in the Carrier Dome. Behind the play of QB Don McPherson, Coach Mac guided Syracuse to an undefeated season in 1987, a season Syracuse will honor this Fall at the Sept.
