Senior quarterback Terrel Hunt left the field on crutches during the first quarter of Friday’s season opener against Rhode Island. He wasn’t wearing a sock or cleat on his right foot.
Earlier in the quarter, Hunt escaped the pocket and seemed to roll awkwardly on his right ankle. The signal-caller was ejected in last season’s opener for punching a Villanova player and broke his fibula and tibia against Louisville on Oct. 3.
True freshman Eric Dungey, who won the backup job over sophomore Austin Wilson, entered the game and found hybrid Erv Philips for a 32-yard touchdown pass to give SU a 14-0 lead.
