Syracuse, N.Y. -- Syracuse women's basketball coach Quentin Hillsman fought through disappointment to issue a steely promise just minutes after getting crushed by Connecticut in the 2016 NCAA title game.
Those Huskies were led by the brilliance of forward Breanna Stewart, a Cicero-North Syracuse graduate who decided to leave her home region to further the Huskies' legacy. She did exactly that, pushing the team to four titles in four years.
Hillsman vowed that when the next player of Stewart's caliber rolled out of the Syracuse area, he would recruit her to Syracuse.
Emily Engstler is from New York City, not Syracuse, but the point remains the same.
