Syracuse, N.Y. -- In the fall of 1991, Lawrence Moten arrived on the Syracuse University campus.
Moten was something of a curiosity. An intriguing athlete who had gained almost as much acclaim on the football field as he had the basketball court.
While at Archbishop Carroll High School in Washington, D.C., he had played football with Syracuse quarterback Marvin Graves. When he spent a year at New Hampton (N.H.) Prep, he played football there, too.
Moten came to play basketball at Syracuse, but so had five other recruits that year.
Although many fans wondered about the two-sport standout, Moten was hardly the headliner in the class.
