Jim Boeheim's return vs. North Carolina prompts question: What about UNC's penalties?

Syracuse, N.Y. — The numbers seem lopsided.

The Syracuse athletic department was found last year to have somewhere between one and seven athletes benefit from academic impropriety over a span of seven years by the NCAA. North Carolina, according to the institution-sponsored report by Kenneth Wainstein, had more than 1,871 athletes involved in faulty academic classes over a span of 18 years.

The discrepancy between the scope of the academic issues, as well as the expected punishments, has been an issue that Syracuse fans have seized on in the aftermath of relatively harsh penalties delivered to the SU basketball program and head coach Jim Boeheim.
