Syracuse, N.Y. -- Scott Shafer is making a homecoming of sorts on Saturday.
The former Syracuse football head coach will be back in the Carrier Dome for the first time since being carried off on the shoulders of his players following a last-second win over Boston College to end of 2015 season. He's now in his first season as defensive coordinator at Middle Tennessee State.
Shafer, who went 14-23 in three seasons leading SU, was fired by former SU athletic director Mark Coyle in November 2015. He then signed a three-year, $2.25 million contract to be defensive coordinator at Maryland last year, but stepped down due to personal reasons in April.
