Syracuse, N.Y. - Frank Howard almost returned in New York.
The Syracuse point guard, out since September with an ankle injury, had hoped to play last week in Madison Square Garden, when the Orange lost to Connecticut and then to Oregon in the 2K Classic.
"The crazy thing is I woke up and was sick the day we went," he said. "So that kind of set me back a little bit. God was telling me 'Nah.'"
Instead, Howard made his 2018-19 debut Wednesday night in the Carrier Dome, when the Orange outlasted Colgate 77-56. His number 23 appeared on the Dome scoreboard as a starter minutes before the opening tip.
