Syracuse, N.Y. -- One year ago, Frank Howard spent the summer as the Syracuse Orange's presumed starting point guard.
As a freshman, Howard had served as the back-up to starting guard Michael Gbinije, providing some solid play during Syracuse's run to the Final Four.
With Gbinije graduating, Howard figured to step into the starting point guard role.
But Syracuse had brought in John Gillon, a fifth-year graduate transfer from Colorado State.
After struggling through Syracuse's first 14 games, Howard ceded his starting job to Gillon. Howard's minutes and his production both dwindled. He averaged 22.
