Syracuse, N.Y. — Former Syracuse punter Riley Dixon officially won the Broncos starting punter job on Tuesday, when the team released his competitor for the spot.

Denver released veteran Britton Colquitt in a move that was as much related to salary as it was punting ability. Dixon is slated to make a base salary of $450,000 this season, while Colquitt was scheduled to make $3.25 million.

#Broncos going with Riley Dixon has their punter. Britton Colquitt has been released. Shouldn't be on the market long.

Dixon was solid enough this preseason to make the more expensive option expendable.
