Syracuse, N.Y. -- Former Syracuse football standout Ron Thompson has signed with the Washington Redskins, the team announced on Sunday,
Thompson, a former defensive end looking to carve out a professional career at outside linebacker, was brought in after the Redskins sustained multiple injuries in their linebacker corps.
Washington placed Trent Murphy on injured reserve Saturday while Preston Smith (ankle), Junior Galette (hamstring) and Ryan Anderson (stinger) are all dealing with injuries, according to The Washington Post.
Thompson left SU a year early before going unselected in the 2016 NFL Draft. He signed with the Indianapolis Colts as a free agent, but signed an injury settlement and was released that September.
