Former Syracuse basketball player James Southerland gets NBA camp invite

Syracuse, N.Y. -- James Southerland will go to training camp with the reigning NBA champions.

Southerland, the former Syracuse University basketball player, has received an invitation to the Golden State Warriors' pre-season training camp, according to his agent.

Southerland, a 6-foot-8 forward, spent the 2016-17 season with Golden State's affiliate in the G-League; the Santa Cruz Warriors. Southerland averaged 13.7 points and 6.2 rebounds for Santa Cruz. Noted for his ability to make 3-pointers and stretch opposing defenses, Southerland also made 39 percent of his 3-point shots.

Andy Shiffman, of Priority Sports, confirmed that Southerland would participate in Golden State's camp as a non-roster invitee.
