Former Syracuse basketball, football stars plan celebrity basketball event

Syracuse, N.Y. -- Derrick Coleman and Billy Owens headline an event at Henninger High School next month aimed at raising money for a scholarship fund that defrays the cost of college for African American and Latino students.

Syracuse University announced the event in a news release this morning.

The Coming Back Together (CBT) Celebrity Classic will be held Sept. 14 at 8 p.m. Tickets cost $20 for Henninger gymnasium seats. The school's auditorium will handle the overflow with a simulcast that costs $10. Tickets can be purchased at tickets.com.

Coleman and Owens, who have each had their SU jerseys retired, will coach against each other in a co-ed game that has drawn commitments from Ryan Blackwell, Danene Hopson, Thandi Masimi, Lawrence Moten, Angela Alston-Roberts, Etan Thomas, John Wallace, Davita Smith Carpenter and Eric Devendorf, according to a story on the university's College of Arts and Sciences website.
