First things first: Carrier Dome renovation puts roof above all else (Editorial)

Syracuse University will spend $118 million of its own money to put a permanent roof on the Carrier Dome and begin renovations on other parts of the nearly 40-year-old building. That's good news for Syracuse and Central New York, even as it tests the patience of fans who've already been waiting years for upgrades to bleacher seating and concourses.

The city's skyline is likely to change. Goodbye, marshmallow air-supported roof. Hello, cable truss superstructure supporting a rigid, translucent roof system. The trusses will allow a video board to hang from the ceiling. It will be movable for use during events that use the whole stadium (football, lacrosse, concerts) or just part of it (basketball).
