Syracuse, N.Y. -- It's rare for a football coach to publicly petition for a head-coaching job, but Ed Orgeron's intentions could not have been more clear when he took a call from a Post-Standard columnist two years ago.
Syracuse football fired Scott Shafer, and Orgeron, the defensive line coach at LSU itching at the time for a second chance to run a program, was asked if he'd be interested in returning to the school that gave his career a second life of sorts 20 years earlier.
"I'd be highly interested in getting that job," Orgeron told Syracuse.
