Syracuse, N.Y. -- Syracuse football defensive tackle Steven Clark's medical outlook became a bit bleaker on Monday.
The junior returning starter has spent the offseason dealing with the discovery of a genetic disorder, Factor V Leiden, that makes him more susceptible to blood clotting. During a follow-up appointment that afternoon, Syracuse-area hematologist Dr. Santo DiFino recommended that Clark take blood thinners for the rest of his life, Clark's father, Steve Clark, said in a phone interview.
"There's a higher risk of clotting and (DiFino) is uncomfortable with him playing a collision sport," Steve Clark said.
