The University of Virginia showed that, in an era when rumors are constant, a football coach can still be hired in relative secrecy.
The ACC school announced Friday night that it had landed former BYU coach Bronco Mendenhall for its coaching vacancy, offering a five-year contract worth $3.25 million annually.
The move is likely good news for Syracuse in the game of college football musical chairs. It eliminates one more desirable landing spot for coaches, and fills the vacancy with a coach who was not considered a likely candidate at SU.
