Syracuse, N.Y. -- Andre Szmyt is one step away from accomplishing a feat only eight other Syracuse football players have achieved.
The redshirt freshman kicker was named a first-team All-American by The Sporting News on Tuesday.
He will become just the ninth unanimous All-American in Syracuse football history if he is named to the first-team by the American Football Coaches Association, scheduled to be released Wednesday.
To become a unanimous All-American, a player must be named a first-team All-American on each of the five NCAA-recognized All-America committees (Walter Camp Football Foundation, American Football Coaches Association, The Sporting News, Football Writers Association of America and Associated Press).
