Syracuse, N.Y. -- The NCAA announced on Wednesday it has adopted a few much-anticipated rules changes designed to bring more tempo and offensive excitement to the men's lacrosse game starting in 2019.
The biggest change is the implementation of an 80-second shot clock. The clock will include a 20-second clearing count, during which players must advance the ball across the midfield line. If the team with possession is not in its offensive half of the field when the visible shot clock reaches 60 seconds, it is a violation.
The NCAA reported that in its annual rules survey, 62 percent of coaches indicated support for a shot clock on every possession, including 71 percent of Division I coaches.
