Syracuse, N.Y. -- For the last 17 years, when Mike Hopkins got a commitment from a high school recruit, it was good news for Syracuse basketball.
On Tuesday, Hopkins got a commitment from Nate Roberts, a 6-foot-11 forward at Brewster (N.H.) Academy. It was not good news for Syracuse.
Hopkins, the longtime Syracuse University assistant, is now the head coach at the University of Washington.
On Tuesday, Roberts announced that he would play for Washington, choosing the Huskies over Syracuse and Nebraska. Roberts had previously considered Wake Forest and Connecticut before trimming his list to the three finalists.
