The Syracuse Orange are heading to the Elite Eight thanks to a comeback win. The No. 10 seeded Syracuse defeated the No. 11 seeded Gonzaga Bulldogs 63-60 Friday.
It was a nine-point Gonzaga lead with 6:28 to play, but the Orange did not quit. They cut the lead to one with 2:20 to play. The Orange took a 61-60 lead with just 19 seconds left.
The Bulldogs got the ball back after an incorrect out-of-bounds call on a steal by the Orange with just 11 seconds left. But, Cuse defense stood strong and held on for the win. The Orange ended the game on a 9-1 run in the final three minutes.
The Zags were led by Kyle Wiltjer and Domantas Sabonis. Wiltjer had 23 points, five rebounds and four assists. Sabanois was a force down low, racking up 19 points and 17 rebounds. The Zags shot 44.4 percent from the field.
The Orange shot just 36.1 percent from the field, but forced 15 turnovers. Michael Gbinjie had 20 points. Trevor Cooney stepped up late and finished with 15 points and two big steals.
The Orange will now face Virginia Sunday. The Cavaliers beat Iowa State earlier Thursday.
