Swansea City 1-2 Manchester City: Vincent Kompany hands Pep Guardiola another injury blow as his side maintain perfect record thanks to Gael Clichy and Aleix Garcia goals in EFL Cup clash

Vincent Kompany gave Manchester City another injury scare on his latest comeback as Pep Guardiola’s side launched their defence of the EFL Cup with a club record ninth straight win at the Liberty Stadium.

The City skipper, who has been plagued by muscle injuries over the last two years, was making his first appearance in nearly five months following thigh surgery and extensive rehabilitation.

Kompany looked in good shape and even started the excellent move that led to Gael Clichy firing City in front. But he walked straight down the tunnel in added time after appearing to hurt himself when Gylfi Sigurdsson pulled a goal back for Swansea, leaving City to defend their lead with 10 men in the dying seconds.
