Southampton showed no signs of a European hangover as Charlie Austin fired them to a 1-0 victory over Swansea City.
It is a welcome first Premier League win for Claude Puel, after starting the season without a win in four attempts, against Watford, Manchester United, Sunderland and Arsenal.
Former QPR and Burnley striker Austin, who netted a first-half double against Sparta Prague in the Europa League in midweek, scored the game's only goal shortly after the hour mark. It was just his second league goal as he controlled the ball with his chest before lashing home from eight yards.
