Manchester United 1-1 Swansea: Wayne Rooney's penalty cancelled out by trademark Gylfi Sigurdsson free kick as visitors' relegation plight receives glimmer of hope at Old Trafford

Swansea's relegation plight was aided by a trademark Gylfi Sigurdsson free kick which cancelled out Wayne Rooney's first-half penalty as Manchester United had to settle for a 1-1 draw at Old Trafford.

Jose Mourinho named Rooney to start in midfield and the opening exchanges between the two sides were largely even. But a burst by Marcus Rashford into the visitors' box saw Swansea goalkeeper Lukas Fabianski rush out and bring the striker down.

Rooney then converted from 12 yards but the game was far from over. The captain had a part to play in the visitors' goal, bringing down Jordan Ayew 20 yards from his the United goal.
