Victor Anichebe leads as Jordan Pickford stands firm for Sunderland

The class of 1964, led by 80-year-old Charlie Hurley (captain and icon of the club's first ever promotion) returned to the Stadium of Light to see a first home win, a first clean sheet and a magnificent display by Victor Anichebe and future England goalkeeper Jordan Pickford.

Anichebe proved to be the difference between sides as his two firmly struck goals gave Sunderland breathing space against a composed and industrious Hull City who had more possession and who saw their few chances kept out by the ever improving Pickford.

Manager David Moyes made an early switch from 4-3-3- to 4-4-2 which came off with Duncan Watmore, Jermain Defoe and Anichebe causing a brittle Tigers defence problems.
