Sunderland have lined up a package to take Liverpool's Ben Woodburn on loan for the rest of the season but the deal has been delayed because of Philippe Coutinho's move to Barcelona.
Mohamed Salah's recent injury has also clouded matters, seeing the youngster wait before completing his part-time switch to Wearside.
Black Cats boss Chris Coleman moved quickly for 18-year-old Woodburn when he was made available by the Anfield club to gain regular first-team experience.
Coleman gave the youngster his international debut for Wales in 2017 and has worked extensively with Woodburn over the past season.
